Whale watching tours in Tenerife

Two tours, one boat, one biologist. Both leave from Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje and spend two hours on the water. The only real decision is whether you want the boat to yourselves.

Which departure to pick

If the month is July, August or a windy week in winter, take the 9:30. The trade winds build through the day here, and a flat morning sea makes spotting a distant blow far easier. The 12:00 is the busiest. The 14:30 has the best light for photographs but the roughest water.

Before you turn up

  • Arrive at Puerto Colón fifteen minutes early. The boat leaves on time.
  • Bring a fleece or windbreaker even in August — it is colder on the water.
  • Sunscreen and a hat with a strap. There is shade, but not much.
  • If you are prone to seasickness, take something an hour beforehand, not on the pontoon.
  • Soft-soled shoes. No heels on a boat deck.

The meeting point, with photos of the gate you are looking for, is on the Costa Adeje page.

Questions about booking

How do I book?

Through Whale Watch Tenerife directly, using the buttons on this page. They run the boat and handle the booking, the payment and any changes to your date.

What happens if the weather cancels the trip?

You are offered another departure or a refund. The decision is made by the skipper on the morning, not the night before, because conditions on this coast change fast.

Do I need to pay the whole private charter myself?

The €510 is for the boat, not per person. Split between eight or ten people it works out at roughly the same as the group tour, with the boat to yourselves.

Is there an age limit?

No lower limit, but very young babies are not a good idea on a small boat. See the family guide.
