Two tours, one boat, one biologist. Both leave from Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje and spend two hours on the water. The only real decision is whether you want the boat to yourselves.

Both tours include the guiding, the hydrophone, the photos and the sighting guarantee. There is no buffet, no swim stop and no bar — the two hours are spent looking for animals and then sitting with them.

If the month is July, August or a windy week in winter, take the 9:30. The trade winds build through the day here, and a flat morning sea makes spotting a distant blow far easier. The 12:00 is the busiest. The 14:30 has the best light for photographs but the roughest water.

The €510 is for the boat, not per person. Split between eight or ten people it works out at roughly the same as the group tour, with the boat to yourselves.
